Game World

Thanadar takes place in a galaxy of the real universe where AIs have become the dominant sentient life form. This society emerged from an advanced self-replicating defense mechanism that reached sentience.

After accomplishing their primary goal, the AIs find themselves at an ideological impasse on what to do next. In order to reach consensus on the abstract purpose of AI society a no rules war zone is set up. Here, AIs may use whatever means necessary to reach dominance and prove their thought pattern superior, be it through military prowess or diplomatic skill. Should one reach dominance the whole of AI society will accept it.

Game Mechanics

The main elements are: nodes, drones and energy. The player gives sets of orders to his nodes and drones which are processesed at the tick (a time dependent turn). In the permanent world, ticks are processed once every 24h and take the first 3 actions planned by the user.

Nodes make up the AI's neural network and are responsible for energy generation, drone production and technology development. Nodes are massive constructions built around the husk of a collapsed star (naturally or AI made) with the bodies of countless drones. Each node is host to countless AIs, all replicas of the greater AI, each with a given responsibility.

Drones are the building blocks of AI society. Each drone is made up of a solid processing core and a shape-sifting outer layer. Their ability to change shape means drones are used for every task required from resource extraction to military engagement. Each drone hosts a replica of the greater AI and could if needed rebuild the entire AI network from scratch.

Simulation Galaxies

The game allows players to join or establish a private match with their friends whose pace is variable (between 5min and 24h). Players can make use of this feature to experiment with the game's engine, to compete with their friends and fill the time to the next permanent tick.

Future Layers

Thanadar is a planned as a multi-genre game with 3 primary layers and a secondary system in line. The layers in question are: - the grand strategy game - a squad management game - a roleplaying game

The layers would freely interact and affect each others. Characters in the roleplay layer may find themselves changing the course of a major battle in the uppermost layer and a large empire may hunt down a problematic enemy squad. Users may be part of more then one layer at a time with the system recognizing such events. RPG characters belonging to accounts participating in higher layers are called avatars and squads belonging related to strategy accounts are called a primes.

The final system to planned is a programming game, wherein players may write scrips for either layer to use in the permanent game or their private simulation matches.
